Dr David Porter is a specialist Rheumatologist.

Graduating from the University of Otago Medical School in 1992, David spent his junior doctor years in Wellington (1993 and 1994), before moving to the UK to further his training from 1994-1998 in London. Returning to Wellington he undertook Specialist training in Rheumatology at the Wellington Regional Rheumatology Unit from 1998-2002. David was awarded the Rose Hellaby Medical Scholarship in 2003, enabling completion of his Rheumatology training in Melbourne. He has been a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians as a specialist Rheumatologist since 2004.

David returned to New Zealand in 2004 and worked as a consultant Rheumatologist and General Physician at Nelson Marlborough DHB from 2004 until 2013, leaving the DHB in June 2013. He now works as a private Rheumatologist in Nelson.  

David has been an investigator in clinical trials investigating new rheumatology drugs, and continues to be active in clinical trials.

He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), and a member of the New Zealand Rheumatology Association (NZRA), American College of Rheumatology (ACR), and American College of Physicians (ACP).
